The place has associations with the sustained development in Mukinbudin through the depression and years of World War Two, and with the Sirr family. It contributes to the streetscape and townscape character of Mukinbudin.
Cement brick construction with a corrugated iron roof, the jarrah floorboards and original wooden packing crate shelves are still in place in the shop. The original building was 24' x 60' and comprised two rooms with a verandah. The verandah was extended in the 1950s.
In 1934, Mr A Sirr opened the shop with a billiard saloon. The
shop was a hairdresser, tobacconist, and sold fancy goods and patent medicines. The billiard saloon was
at the rear of the shop, and it has been claimed that the original billiard table is still in existence in the Mukinbudin area. Despite opening tor business in the middle of the depression, Sirr's business survived as the town of Mukinbudin developed. The Kurrajong trees from the bank to the shop were planted in 1936. By the late 1940s, the business had expanded to sell groceries, clothing and 'Shell' oils, and fuel from the bowser installed after the war. Mr A Sirr and his son Peter ran a business in Nungarin while Mrs A Sirr and a daughter ran the Mukinbudin store. In the 1980s the place was renovated for a restaurant which did not eventuate, and in 1990, K Gerahty opened the Big Bubble and Hairdressers. In 1996, F & D Cooper opened a craft and home furnishing shop.
