Physical Description

‘The Interior of the church has a double raised roof with ecclesiastical heads. The alter area recesses back from the main area with a carved wooden vestry at the rear of the church. The exterior is of Jarrah cladding with the Gothic looking windows. The entry is covered with a portico with double wooden doors. A water storage tank has been constructed at the rear of the building and a sink was put in 1980. The Bell Tower was constructed in 1970 by Ken Leach.’

History

‘In 1916 Reverend Joseph Budge originally built the church hall as a meeting place at Nartha a 205 mile camp along the trans Australian Railway. Within a short while the railway camps were disbanding as the rails were finally linked up the church was dismantled and transferred to Westonia.’ ‘Services before then were held at the Moners and Mechanics Institute Hall. It was re erected at Westonia in October of the same year. Thursday 22nd October the Reverend A.R Edington blessed the St Luke’s Church and the first confirmation was held in January 1920. In 1930 the church was in disrepair and was renovated and rededicated on July 1930.’
