The place is notable as an early site in the business and commercial development of the town of Woodanilling.
Remnants of the site can be found about 30 metres north of Robinson Road east of the Boyerine Creek. Parts of the stone chimney and foundations are the only evidence.
The site was described as "The Hall was on the west near the blacksmiths, and down near the creek on the north side of Robinson Road before one got to the bridge (a small structure) was a boarding house, owned by a Mrs Grover. Years later when the new bridge was constructed (the water used to surround the place in the winter) the house was moved to where it is now. Remodelled and owned by Mr Spencer.
Albert Coate's mother in-law, Mrs Grover, in the early years at Woodanilling helped the pioneer cause by baking bread in the old oven by the creek and in 1904 by cooking for the various teams stripping mallet bark.
Mrs Grover some time later kept a boarding house at Woodanilling taking over from Mrs Nelson at the 'old pub', most of her guests being railway workers, before moving to Gnowangerup where she set up another boarding house in the main street. Mrs Nelson's furniture and effects were sold in June 1911 indicating her departure or death prior to this.
