Statement of Significance

The site is significant for the associations with the earliest education in the Boyanup area.

History

By 1877, the number of children in the Boyanup area justified a school.
Miss Moriarty ran the first Government school (this one), and then Alice Hurst. In c1890, Mrs Jim Ecclestone ran school classes in her home at 'Runnymead', and in the students homes, after the school closed, and continued to do so until the Boyanup School was established.
